SPECIES
ORIGINAL VAMPIRES
The first ever vampires! This includes only the Mikaelsons, well Klaus is technically one... Anyways, the Original Vampires are stronger and faster than hybrids, normal vampires, werewolves and every other specie ever known. They can compel Vampires, humans and hybrids unless they are on vervain. Stakes do not kill them, and vervain is quite lethal to them but not as much as it is to normal vampires and hybrids. The only known weapon that can kill an Original is the White Oak Stake, the last one being in Klaus's possession. Really powerful magic can harm them and they need to be invited in.
VAMPIRES
The most common of all. To become a vampire, one must die with vampire blood in their system and feed on human blood when they come back to life. Vampires are stronger and faster than werewolves and humans and they grow stronger with age. That means that a 500 year old vampire can easily overpower a 100 year old. Stake to the heart, as well as removal of the heart or head can kill them. Vervain is very lethal and they need to be invited in. Vampires can also burn in the sunlight unless they have a daylight ring, crafted by a witch.
WEREWOLVES/HYBRIDS
Slaves of the moon. Most have been hunted down almost to extinction by vampires, an ancient rivalry that goes 1000 of years back. They are stronger and faster than normal humans, but are much weaker than vampires. On a full moon, werewolves are forced to shift into a wolf, their bodies breaking as they go through excruciating pain. Only when they are a wolf can they overpower vampires. Jules, a young werewolf overpowered Rose, a 500 year old vampire as a wolf. A bite from a werewolf can kill a vampire in a few days unless the vampire takes Klaus's blood which is the cure. Wolfsbane is as poisonous to them as vervain to a vampire. Werewolves cannot be compelled at all and they can be turned into hybrids.
A Hybrid is a half vampire, half werewolf created by Klaus. It can only be made when a werewolf is fed Klaus's blood and dies. Once they come back to life, they must feed on Doppelganger blood in order to complete the transition. Hybrids are stronger and faster than werewolves and vampires. A 1 year old hybrid has the same strength as a 150 year old vampire and it doubles with age. So a 2 year old hybrid is as strong as a 300 year old vampire. A bite from a hybrid can kill a vampire in 2 days and they don't need to shift into a wolf on a full moon. Hybrids can also freely walk out in the daylight. However, with these abilities come weaknesses, so both Wolfsbane and Vervain is poisonous to hybrids. They can be compelled by Originals and cannot be killed by a stake. Only removal of the head or heart kills a Hybrid.
WITCHES
The oldest ever species and the ones that are the cause of vampires. Witches can either follow the light path where they use the magic they gain from spirits or they can use expression, a very dark and dangerous path which gives them massive and uncontrollable power. Witches can be turned into vampires and can die from anything human, but a very powerful witch such as Davina can even overpower an Original. However, using too much power in one go can cause harm to witches and sometimes result in death.

HUMANS
The people at the bottom of the food-chain. The snack for all vampires... They can be compelled, turned into vampires and killed any ways possible. Although they are at the bottom, there are some cunning humans that eventually become a hunter, someone who protects people from the supernatural and some that are just out for revenge. Humans can drink vervain to prevent being compelled and Hunters have a lot of equipment they need to fight the supernatural creatures out there. A gilbert ring also brings a human back to life if they have been killed by anything supernatural.
